Blind wine tasting takes place Saturday
Oakwood Sister City Association will host a blind wine tasting in the same fashion as “The Judgment of Paris,” from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Great Room of the Oakwood Community Center, 105 Patterson Road.
So what exactly IS “The Judgment of Paris”?
The Paris Wine Tasting of 1976 — known as “The Judgment of Paris” — was a wine competition held on May 24 by Steven Spurrier, a British wine merchant, in which French judges carried out two blind tasting comparisons: one of top-quality Chardonnays and another of red wines (Bordeaux wines from France and Cabernet Sauvignon wines from California). Spurrier was sure the French wines would prevail, but a Californian wine rated best in each category. The results sent shockwaves through the industry and helped lead to the globalization of wine.
There will be several wines tasted at Saturday’s OSCA affair, but the types of wine will not be revealed until the end, once everyone has voted for their favorites.
Tickets to the wine tasting are $25 per person. A light lunch is included. For tickets, please email oakwoodsistercity@gmail.com, visit Oakwood Sister City Association’s Facebook page, or call 937-260-3799. All proceeds benefit OSCA’s student exchange program, which sends local teens abroad each summer for home stays in France.
