Scholarshi­p offered to Chicago guard

Pinson goes to same school as former Flyers star Pollard.

The Dayton FlyDAYTON — ers offered a scholarshi­p to Xavier Pinson, a 6-foot-2 senior point guard from Simeon Career Academy in Chi- cago. That’s the alma mater of former Dayton forward Kendall Pollard.

Pinson announced the scholarshi­p offer Sunday on Twitter. He also picked up an offer from George- town last weekend.

Pinson is a three-star recruit in the class of 2018, according to Rivals.com.

He spent the past three years at St. Patrick High School in Chicago, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Dayton has one scholarshi­p open for 2018. It has signed one recruit in the class, Dwayne Cohill, of Holy Name High School in Parma Heights, Ohio.

Pinson originally committed to Kent State on Oct. 8 but reopened his recruitmen­t on Oct. 14.

New York recruit: In December, Dayton offered a scholarshi­p to Frankie Policelli, a 6-8 small forward in the class of 2018.

Policelli’s high school, Long Island Lutheran (N.Y.), announced the offer on Twit- ter on Dec. 29.

He also received an offer from Cincinnati on the same day.

Rivals.com ranks Policelli No. 146 in the class of 2018. He ranks 168th according to 247Sports.com. Both web sites list him as a three-star recruit.

Policelli took an official visit to another Atlantic 10 school, George Washing- ton, in October. Texas Tech offered him a scholarshi­p in December. Numerous other schools have recruited him or offered scholarshi­ps.

Policelli is from New Hart- ford, N.Y., which is four hours from Long Island. He transferre­d to Long Island Lutheran for his senior year. He missed the second half of his junior season after undergoing knee surgery.

He averaged 28.1 points and over 13 rebounds as a junior.

Florida recruit: Also in December, Dayton offered a scholarshi­p to 2018 point guard Neftali Alvarez. He’s a native of Puerto Rico who moved to Miami in 2016. He’s now a senior at Miami Christian High School.

The 6-1 Alvarez is a threestar recruit, according to 247Sports.com. He’s the 332nd-ranked player in the class of 2018.

He visited Wichita State, Arkansas State and Akron in the fall. He’s averaging 23.5 points, 10.5 assists and 6.5 rebounds per game.

Alvarez hit a winni ng 3-pointer at the buzzer for Miami Christian in the Class 2A state championsh­ip game in March.
