Art by Lebanon City Schools employees on display
The Arts Council of Lebanon has about 35 works of art on display as p artofthe “Warriors As Creators” exhibition. The exhibit features art by the employees of the Lebanon City Schools. The art will be on display every Saturday through Feb. 17.
“Warriors As Creators” focuses on works of art from the Lebanon C ity S chools employees, and it demonstrates their creativity, outside of the typical school day, said Rochelle Collins, CEO/ president, The Arts Council of Lebanon.
“We were talking to teachers and secretaries, and we learned that they are very creative. They do all these things outside of what they do during the school day. When they leave school, they become artists,” Collins said.
The idea was born out of a conversation with Todd Yohey, superintendent for Lebanon CityScho ols.
“We need to show how everyone in this school seems to be able to do something that is really amazingly creative, and we want to support that,” she said.
Art in the show ranges from quilts and sculpture to paint- ings and more.
Collins said The Arts Council of Lebanon wanted to show- case the talent of many of the artists that work at the school. It’s a lso a one-of-a-kind fac- ulty and staff show from a city school system, which shows off work from participants in all of the schools – from kinder- garten teachers to the middle school and high school. The pieces in the exhibition were submitted by artists like the superintendent, principals, teachers, librarians and other school officials.
“We are treating this like a professional show and respecting their work. And, we want the community to see this work, because it’s wonderful and exciting. It shows how creati vethepeopleinourschool Schools are already wellknown for stellar academics, strong sports programs, and comprehensive art, music, and theater offerings, and this exhibition gives a behindthe-scenes look at the varied artistic tal entsofmanyof the employees that work within the school system. This is the first time for an exhibition like this, which has already been well received by the community.
“We are going to make this an annual exhibition, so we expect there will be even more pieces next year,” she said. “On openin gnight, wewere packed. It was fantastic. It exceeded our expectations.”
