Home Builders Association of Dayton

- By Josh Dungan, 2018 President

Greetings, Homes Plus Readers!

I am honored to assume the role of president of the Home Builders Association of Dayton for 2018, and I look forward sharing my thoughts and insights regarding home building and homeownership with you in the year ahead.

As a third-generation builder for my family’s business, JM Dungan Custom Homes, and a native Daytonian, I am committed to helping improve the Dayton region and pleased to have the opportunity to provide information about the home building industry.

I recognize the HBA is a vital part and important resource for many. Serving residential construction members, the homebuying consumer and civic partners, the Home Builders Association of Dayton fills an important role. The HBA is pleased to be a crucial resource in your search for a new home.

Often, I am asked “What is the Home Builders Association?” Simply answered, the HBA is the voice of the residential building industry in our region and one of its most respected membership organizations.

The HBA is comprised of nearly 400 residential building professional firms and friends of the industry, each of which is dedicated to the proposition that home ownership should be within the reach of every American family. The HBA is a very active organization which promotes and enhances the professionalism of home building and associated businesses throughout Montgomery, Greene, Preble, Butler, Warren and Darke counties.

Founded in 1942, the HBA has worked to build a better Dayton and make the American dream attainable for many homeowners throughout the Miami Valley region.

The mission of the HBA is to make the Dayton area more attractive to businesses and residents, providing superior value in home ownership by:

■ Promoting industry standards

■ Educating our members and the community

■ Marketing members’ capabilities and

■ Advocating responsible development.

The members of the HBA are not just home builders, remodelers or developers, but also associate members from all facets of homeownership and home building. These associate members include the home building industry’s suppliers, service providers and product manufacturers.

These members support the industry in many different capacities and are a vital component of the association. Associate members range from lumber suppliers to lending institutions, from marketing firms to cleaning companies and legal firms to cabinetmakers. Carpenters, plumbers, electricians, bricklayers and many more – all of these people are backbone of the HBA.

The HBA is a non-profit organization that is governed by an elected Board of Directors made up of builder and associate members who volunteer their time, skills and expertise for the benefit of the HBA.

As members of the HBA of Dayton, each company is also part of the Ohio Home Builders Association which advocates for the industry at the state legislative level, and the National Association of Home Builders which supports the industry on a national level with services, programs and advocacy in Washington, D.C.

One role, as indicated in the mission statement, is to promote industry standards. The National Association of Home Builders develops and refines industry construction standards. These guidelines serve to align the builder’s and home buyer’s expectations as they relate to the construction of a new home.

Promoting member capabilities is accomplished through the always-popular home shows such as Homearama Touring Edition and the Parade of Homes. These showcase events highlight the latest quality amenities and design trends available to new homes.

The HBA is also the primary advocate in the Dayton region for the home building industry as it provides consumers with a go-to source for credible information on responsible building and developing.

The HBA hosts a fantastic resource on its website, www.HBADayton.com, which members and consumers use to find industry professionals. This member directory allows consumers to search for professionals by their specific need.

The HBA’s website also lists available land and building lots and available jobs in the residential building industry for consumers to browse. Another resource for builders and consumers is the HBA’s New Home Source. In partnership with Builders Digital Experience, the New Home Source allows builders to list their homes online and consumers to search for the perfect new home.

If you are looking for a builder to create your perfect home or a professional to help with your next home project, start your search with the members of the HBA at www.HBADayton.com.

If you are a professional in the residential construction industry, consider joining the HBA.
