Patterson moves on from time at Ole Miss

- SECCountry.com

Shea Patterson is long gone from the Ole Miss program, but he made arguably as much noise with his departure as he did while playing in Oxford.

He butted heads with the Rebels in a fight to gain immediate eligibility. While he ultimately gained that eligibility, it got ugly with lawyers involved and statements traded back and forth.

It sounds a lot like the trenches of a suit-and-tie business, which is why it’s no surprise that was one of Patterson’s main takeaways from his time at the school.

He recently gave an interview to ESPN’s Edward Aschoff.

“I’ve learned that this is a business, and there’s nothing wrong with that,” Patterson told Aschoff.

It sounds as if Patterson is at peace with his decision to leave, and who wouldn’t be, given the sanctions levied against his former school by the NCAA.

Patterson also doubled down that he still has a good relationship with former Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze despite his transgressions.

While the transfer controversy never got to the point of lawsuits, Aschoff ’s piece gives the overarching feeling Patterson truly has moved on, and he even has changed his number from No. 20 to No. 2.

How Patterson fares going forward will define his legacy. He’ll either develop further at Michigan, or fans may be left wondering what could have been if he stayed at Ole Miss.
