New hotel planned for Dayton in growing area
A new hotel is planned for a site just south of Elizabeth Place in the Carillon neighborhood, which would be the third hotel constructed along a 1.5-mile stretch of the South Edwin C. Moses corridor since the mid-2000s.
The owners wants to construct a new hotel on vacant land at the southeast corner of Hopeland and Albany streets want to construct a new hotel on the property, which sits behind the Fresenius Kidney Care Dayton East Center at 821 S. Edwin C. Moses Blvd.
The proposed five-story hotel would have 200 rooms and about 204 parking spaces, according to a preliminary site plan. The Dayton Plan Board this month will consider amending the zoning map to allow the hotel to be constructed on 3.4 acres of land at Albany and Hopeland streets.
This newspaper has reached out to the owners of the property and other groups involved in the project for comment and will update the story if they respond.
There are two existing hotels near the University of Dayton Arena already, though one is on opposite sides of the river. Construction on a third hotel nearby is nearly completed.
The Marriott at the University of Dayton, at 1414 S. Patterson Blvd., has 399 rooms and sits on the eastern side of the Great Miami River, across from UD’s basketball stadium. The hotel, which opened in 1982, underwent about $23 million in renovations starting in 2016.
The Courtyard by MarriottUniversity of Dayton, at 2006 S. Edwin C. Moses Blvd., has 101 rooms and opened in 2007.
Just down the road, a new $8 million Holiday Inn Express is being built on three acres of land on the 2100 block of Edwin C. Moses. It will have about 95 rooms.
