The Ohio Developmen­t Services Agency and Warren County Community Services Inc. (WCCS), will help income-eligible Ohioans stay cool during the hot summer months. The Home Energy Assistance Summer Crisis Program provides eligible Ohioans assistance paying an electric bill or assistance with an air conditione­r. The program runs from July 1 until Aug. 31.

To apply for the program, customers are required to schedule an appointmen­t and bring the following documentat­ion:

■ a copy of their most recent energy bill

■ proof of income for the last 30 days or 12 months for each household member 18 years or older

■ self-employment is required to provide 12 months of income with IRS 1040 and a self-employment form (pick up a form prior to your appointmen­t)

■ seasonal employment is required to provide 12 months income; pay stubs, printout from employer or seasonal employment verificati­on form (pick up a form prior to your appointmen­t).

■ picture ID for primary applicant, social security cards for all household members,

■ proof of citizenshi­p for all household members

■ physician documentat­ion that cooling assistance is needed for a household member’s health (if there isn’t a household member over the age of 60).

■ renters: a copy of a lease or notarized statement from the landlord

■ section 8, HUD housing need a copy of the worksheet if applicable

■ food stamp letter

The Summer Crisis Program assists low-income households with a member, age 60 years or older or households that can provide physician documentat­ion that cooling assistance is needed for a household member’s health. Conditions can include lung disease, Chronic Obstructiv­e Pulmonary Disease (COPD) or asthma.
