Mercer County’s Moeller Brew Barn to open second space on Main St.

A new brewery is in the works in downtown Troy — but its founders already have some strong experience under their belts.

Moeller Brew Barn — which has operated a brewery and tasting room in Maria Stein, south of Celina in Mercer County, since 2015 — will open a second location at 214 W. Main St. in downtown Troy, the Troy Main Street organization announced Tuesday on its Facebook page. The brewery later confirmed the plans on its own Facebook page. The new brewery is expected to open in spring 2019.

“The approximately 8,000 square feet building will offer on-site handcrafted beer and locally sourced food menu,” Troy Main Street officials said. “The conversion of the building, built in 1919, will provide seating for up to 170 people and space for 1,800 barrels of craft beer annually. This establishment is expected to create 25 jobs.”

Nick Moeller, founder of Moeller Brew Barn, told Troy Main Street that he’s excited about the expansion of his brewery’s brand.

“We’ll get to build our brewing expertise, continue to foster creativity for new products, and offer even more fresh local craft beer,” Moeller said.

The Mercer County brewery is part of a national and local craft-brewery surge that began in the early part of this decade and now includes about 15 breweries in the greater Dayton region, with more in the works. Since the surge began, no Dayton-area breweries have closed, and nearly all have expanded, some dramatically, or have added new, larger locations.

Moeller Brew Barn lists 13 beers on its website, including Dirt Track Kolsch, Honeywagon IPA, Blackberry Prairie Wheat and Wally Post Red, a tribute to a legendary Cincinnati Reds baseball player.
