Police pursuit ends in man’s suicide

A Hardin County man took his own life on Thursday after fleeing authoritie­s when a deputy attempted to serve him a warrant.

The Lima News reports a deputy with the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office attempted a traffic stop on Matthew Wall, 39, of Kenton, at 4:26 p.m. Thursday at County Road 130 and Jones Road. The deputy wanted to serve him with an outstandin­g bench warrant for failure to appear in court from Putnam County.

Wall refused to stop, and a brief pursuit ensued. Fearing for public safety, the deputy ended the pursuit but continued to follow Wall to his residence. Wall barricaded himself in his garage, while the deputy called for backup.
