After going 8-under with scores of 68 and 66 over 36 holes Monday, Auterson led Sowards by four strokes going into the final 18 on Tuesday.

Sowards trimmed three strokes off Auterson’s lead by shooting 68, but Auterson turned in an even-par 71 to win the event by one stroke with a 205 total.

Kyler Booher, the head pro at Miami Shores Golf Course in Troy, posted a 6-over 216 to finish ninth. His was the best score by a Dayton-area player.

DCC to host two fundraiser­s: Dayton Country Club will host two major fundraiser­s in September.

For the fifth year in succession, John Higgins is partnering with the Lexus of Dayton dealership in sponsoring the Lexus Champions For Charity event benefiting the First Tee of Greater Miami Valley. The tournament generates a large portion of First Tee’s operating budget.

It will be held Friday, Sept. 21, beginning at 11 a.m. with registrati­on and lunch. There will be a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. The cost is $1,600 per foursome, and 100 percent goes to the First Tee program. The format is: best three of four with Stableford scoring.

The second event is the Dayton Region Patriot Golf Classic benefiting the Folds of Honor Foundation on Monday, Sept. 24. It will have two waves, with shotgun starts at 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. One can register as a single or with a foursome. The fee is $250 per player.

Chip Shots: The 21st annual John P. Kalaman Memorial Golf Tournament is Monday, Sept. 10 at Yankee Trace. All proceeds go to John P. Kalaman Scholarshi­p Fund.

Tuesday is the entry deadline for the Senior Metro and Mid-Amateur Championsh­ips on Sept. 4-5 at Miami Valley Golf Club.

Entries for the City Men’s Stroke Play and Senior Stroke Play events at Kittyhawk Golf Center must be received by Sept. 7. The Tournament­s will be played Sept. 15-16.

Golf profession­al Bill Kumle, who has worked at Rollandia Golf Course for many years, has retired after 53 years in the golf business. He was head golf profession­al at Twin Base Golf Course and the pro at Heatherwoo­de when it opened in 1991.
