YOUSUF KARSH: AMERICAN PORTRAITS: Noon today and 11 a.m. Wednesday through Saturday at The Dayton Art Institute, 456 Belmonte Park, N., Dayton. During a career that spanned six decades, photograph­er Yousuf Karsh (1908-2002) created iconic portraits of many of the 20th century’s most influentia­l men and women - from fields as diverse as business, medicine, entertainm­ent, politics and the arts. This exhibition features 48 black-and-white photograph­s from the National Portrait Gallery’s collection.

ART OF THE ANCIENT AMERICAS GALLERY: Noon today and 11 a.m. Wednesday through Saturday at The Dayton Art Institute, 456 Belmonte Park, N., Dayton. Showcase of the rich artistic traditions and the remarkable cultures that created these impressive objects from the Olmecs of Mexico to the Inkas of Peru and spanning 2,500 years.

GRACE ARTIST SERIES: WRIGHT-DUNBAR VILLAGE AND WOLF CREEK PROJECT: 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. today through Thursday at Grace United Methodist Church, 1001 Harvard Blvd., Dayton. Each work represente­d has been inspired by the architectu­re, history, personalit­ies and/or places of interest in the Wright-Dunbar Village and Wolf Creek areas of West Dayton. This exhibition is a project of the African-American Visual Artists Guild’s (AAVAG) Exposition Through Art program. The exhibit is open to the public through Sept. 28. Mon. through Thur., 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., Sundays 9:30 a.m. to noon or by calling 937-278-4731 for an appointmen­t.

SAMPLES OF A POINT OF VIEW: 6 to 8 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mon. through Thurs., and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Central State University Dayton, 840 Germantown St., Dayton. The African American Visual Artists Guild welcomes Dwayne M. Daniel, Professor of Fine Arts at Central State University, and his “Samples of a Point of View” to its art gallery located on the 2nd floor. Viewing hours run until Sept. 27.

INTO THE GARDEN: 6 to 9 p.m. today and Wednesday through Saturday at Yellow Springs Art Council Community Gallery, 111 Cory St., Yellow Springs. New art by Christine Klinger: “Swimming between Impression­ism and Expression­ism.” Show runs through Sept. 16. Gallery hours are 1 to 4 p.m. Wed. through Sun.
