Prugh 75th Anniversar­y

On August 28, Frances and Kemp Prugh will celebrate their 75th wedding anniversar­y. Frances Elliott, born in Covington, Virginia, was raised in Newton, Iowa, where her father worked for the Maytag company. Kemp was born in Dayton and grew up on a 254-acre farm, Ash Lawn, located in and around the area where the Meijer’s complex at Wilmington Pike and Woodman Drive is now sited. They met while attending Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois, and soon became engaged. They married in 1943 in Newton and moved to the Dayton area not long after, residing first in an apartment on the University of Dayton campus. Kemp worked at National Cash Register Company for 27 years, retiring in 1984. Frances retired from the Kettering Foundation the same year. Both have been members of Sugar Creek Presbyteri­an Church in Kettering for over 70 years. They have two grown children, Kemp and Tom, and one grandchild, Gordon.
