Library exhibit
A reception for the new “Humanitarian Missions, Miami Velley, Ohio,” a multimedia exhibit highlighting the global missions of Wright Patterson Air Force Base and other local NGOs, will be held at the Dayton Metro Library downtown location on Thursday, Sept. 6, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The multimedia exhibit highlights with photos, video, mission materials and storylines the Miami Valley’s contribution to humanitarian efforts around the world. Panels includes Wright Patterson Air Force Base missions in Haiti, Ecuador, Japan, Guatemala, Niger, as well as Hurricane Sandy, Irma, and Harvey in the United States. The newly created exhibit will be available for view at the Dayton Metro Library’s Opportunity Room (downtown) during the month of September as a collaboration of Wright Patterson’s 445th and 88th Airlift Wings, the Montgomery County Commission, the Dayton Metro Library, and the Peace Dayton Collaborative Group.
An Opening Reception for the public and media will be held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 6, hosted by Montgomery County Commissioner Debbie Lieberman. Special guests from Wright Patterson will be Base personnel who have been on the ground delivering humanitarian aid in dozens of disaster areas:
■ Lieutenant Colonel Karen P. Kramer is the Public Health Flight Commander, 88th Aerospace Medicine Squadron (AMDS), Wright Patterson Air Force Base
■ Major Gary V. Leavitt, who just returned from a humanitarian mission in El Salvador where he provided gynecologic and orthopedic surgical support
The Peace Dayton Collaborative Group is an alliance of over 100 organizations mounting over 50 peace-related events during September for the local celebration of United Nations’ International Day of Peace, including the Humanitarian Missions Exhibit.
