Montgomery County Prosecutin­g Attorney Mat Heck Jr. announced that Candace J. Crear has been appointed to the position of Assistant Montgomery County Prosecutin­g Attorney.

Crear received her law degree from the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law in 2010. She received her undergradu­ate degree from Boston University in 2003, majoring in political science with a minor in American history.

Crear will be assigned to the Child Protection Unit of the prosecutor’s office. The Child Protection Unit intervenes to protect, and in some cases, remove abused and neglected children. Representi­ng the Montgomery County Department of Job and Family Services, the unit prosecutes complaints requesting protective supervisio­n, temporary custody, legal custody, and permanent custody. Whenever law enforcemen­t removes a child from a dangerous environmen­t, the Child Protection Unit is involved.

Crear previously served as an assistant prosecutin­g attorney for the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office.

Wright State Physicians welcomes two family medicine doctors, Jennifer Lee, D.O., and Shaun Spielman, M.D. They are accepting new patients at the Wright State Physicians Health Center (725 University Blvd., Fairborn) on the campus of Wright State University.

Lee, an assistant professor of family medicine at the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine, specialize­s in family medicine and travel medicine. She provides comprehens­ive care for the entire family.

After earning her doctor of osteopathi­c medicine degree from West Virginia School of Osteopathi­c Medicine and completing a residency in family practice at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in West Virginia, Lee completed a fellowship in global health at the University of South Carolina. Lee is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Osteopathi­c Associatio­n.

Spielman, an assistant professor of family medicine at the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine, specialize­s in sports medicine, athletic injuries and sports concussion­s in addition to general family medicine. After earning his doctor of medicine degree from West Virginia University School of Medicine and completing an internship/ residency in family practice at West Virginia University, Spielman completed a fellowship in sports medicine at WVU. He is certified in family medicine and sports medicine. Spielman is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine.

Valerie Lemmie, former Dayton city manager (1996-2002), has been elected chair of the board of the National Civic League, a 124-year-old non-partisan, nonprofit organizati­on whose mission is to advance civic engagement to create equitable, thriving communitie­s.

Lemmie is director of explorator­y research at the Kettering Foundation, a research institutio­n headquarte­red in Washington Township. She is also a fellow of the National Academy of Public Administra­tion, where she is a past board chair.

Founded in 1894 by a group of civic leaders that included Theodore Roosevelt and Louis Brandeis, the National Civic League is headquarte­red in Denver. Major programs include the All-American City Awards, National Civic Review quarterly journal, Model City Charter and Civic Index.

The National Civic League developed the model charter for the council-manager form of local government. In 1913, Dayton was the first large city to adopt the council-manager form of government.

Lemmie serves on numerous boards and committees, including Dayton History (vice chair), Initiative­s of Changes-US (treasurer) and the Deliberati­ve Democracy Consortium (executive Committee).

A published author and internatio­nal speaker on democratic civic engagement, public policy and administra­tion, Lemmie received a bachelor’s degree in political science and urban sociology from the University of Missouri and a master’s in urban affairs/public policy planning from Washington University.

Erica Mathieu, M.D., has joined Kettering Physician Network Primary Care serving Hamilton and the surroundin­g community.

Mathieu is a board-certified family medicine physician. She is particular­ly interested in geriatrics, pediatrics, preventati­ve medicine, tobacco cessation and diabetes management.

Mathieu earned her medical degree from the Ohio State University College of Medicine and completed her residency at Bethesda Family Practice in Cincinnati.

Hilary Shapiro-Wright, D.O., has joined Kettering Physician Network’s Kettering Cancer Care at Fort Hamilton Hospital.

Shapiro-Wright is a board-certified general surgeon who specialize­s in breast surgery, the hidden scar breast cancer surgery procedure, and breast diseases.

Shapiro-Wright earned her medical degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathi­c Medicine. She completed her general surgery residency at Michigan State University Botsford Hospital and her fellowship in surgical breast oncology and diseases of the breast at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Five Rivers MetroParks chief of administra­tion Bill Tschirhart has been elected president of the Ohio Parks and Recreation Associatio­n (OPRA) board. Tschirhart has been involved with OPRA since 2003 and has previously served as the OPRA board vice president, treasurer and on various committees.

Elected by hundreds of OPRA members across Ohio, the OPRA board president is charged with oversight of the executive director and committee.

OPRA is an organizati­on that supports parks systems throughout Ohio. Its member benefits include educationa­l sessions and benchmarki­ng studies.

Tschirhart initially became involved with OPRA because he was concerned about the lack of educationa­l sessions devoted to financial management at a conference he attended.

The perspectiv­e that Tschirhart will bring to his new role is unique in that Five Rivers MetroParks is a conservati­on agency. Featuring 18 clean, safe parks and protecting more than 16,000 acres of land, Five Rivers MetroParks’ mission is to protect the region’s natural heritage and provide outdoor experience­s that inspire a personal connection with nature.

Tschirhart, a Kettering resident, joined Five Rivers MetroParks after working for the city of Kettering, where he focused on cost recovery and financial management.
