Hamilton police have arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with the death of a 13-year-old boy.

Hamilton police arrested Miquan Damartye Hubbard on a charge of murder. He is being held without bail in the Butler County Jail pending arraignment in Hamilton Municipal Court. He was arrested Saturday in the 300 block of Hudson Avenue.

Hubbard is connected in the death of Jarius Gilbert Jr., who was shot and killed about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at an apartment complex in the 800 block of South Front Street, police said.

Gilbert was an eighthgrader at Wilson Middle School and died of multiple gunshot wounds, according to Butler County Coroner’s Office.

Butler County dispatchers received multiple calls Wednesday night reporting a shooting that left the 13-yearold boy dead and another young man wounded.

The second victim — Datorion Marcus Burns, 19, of Hamilton — also suffered multiple gunshot wounds, according to Hamilton police. Burns was taken to an area hospital for treatment and was expected to survive.

Hamilton Police Chief Craig Bucheit said the 13-year-old and the adult wounded in the shooting were victims of planned and targeted violence.

“Enough’s enough,” Bucheit said after police responded to the apartment complex. “I know the families have had enough. I don’t know what it’s going to take to get these young men to understand exactly the con- sequences to this and the pain they are causing and have caused.”

Last week’s shooting was not the first time the Gilbert family had been touched by gun violence.

Jaraius Gilbert, the boy’s father, was among several people injured in a shootout in July 2016 at the former Doubles Bar in the city. One person died in that shooting, which sparked a drive-by retaliation shooting several days later that killed two people.
