School student was arrested last week for making a threat against the high school, according to Kettering police.
Kettering police Officer Joe Ferrell confirmed that a 16-year-old male student was arrested for making a school shooting threat around 7 p.m. on Sept. 12 and was charged with making terroristic threats, a third-degree felony, and making false alarms, a first-degree misdemeanor.
Tyler Alexander, Fairmont’s principal, said that school officials were notified that evening about the alleged threat and that the Kettering police had done “their due diligence in investigating the situation and everything involving the case was signed, sealed and delivered.” .
“All of our safety protocols were in place and there was never any danger to staff or students on school grounds,” Alexander said.
He added in a statement released later that, “The Kettering Police Department was the first to be notified and handled the situation that night. Currently, Fairmont High School is working through our discipline procedures with the student and family.”
Alexander said that all threats are taken seriously and joking about making threats “is not tolerated at Fairmont High School or in Kettering City Schools.”
School officials are encouraging students to communicate with their teachers and administration if they see something or hear something that threatens the safety of other students or staff.
