Local Kroger renovates to add grocery pickup

Piqua location will undergo $1.75M face-lift to add Kroger Pickup.

Customers of a local Kroger store will likely see some construction as the grocer remodels to accommodate Kroger Pickup.

The program, formerly known as Clicklist, has taken off as more customers favor digital options when shopping for groceries. Stores across the Dayton and Cincinnati regions have seen major remodels to make way for the increasing popularity of the program.

The store at 1510 Covington Ave. in Piqua will see a $1.75 million renovation of its more than 73,000-square-foot store, according to Miami County Building Regulations.

The work is expected to wrap up in January 2019, said Chris Schmiesing, city planner and interim development director of Piqua.

“We’re very excited to see Kroger modernize their facility here in Piqua and to offer the Clicklist conveniences to our citizens and those who choose to shop at Kroger. They’re an important retailer in our community,” Schmiesing said.

The renovation for the Clicklist addition includes sprinkler alterations, installation of partition walls and reconfiguration of some systems.

The grocery pickup service first launched in Liberty Twp. in November 2014.

By December 2017, the service was available at more than 1,000 locations.

Customers use the website or app to order groceries online, choose a time slot to pick them up, arrive during that time slot and let Kroger’s personal shoppers load the groceries into their cars.
