2018 BET Hip Hop Awards, 8 PM on BET; 11:02 PM on

BET: Actor and stand-up comic DeRay Davis plays host to this year’s ceremonies from Miami Beach Convention Center in Miami Beach, Fla. As he has in several other recent award ceremonies, Drake leads the pack of nominations with 11 nods in all, including best hip hop video for “God’s Plan” and album of the year for his “Scorpion” release. Close behind him is last year’s five-time winner Cardi B, with 10 nominations, with Childish Gambino trailing with six nods.

The Kids Are Alright, 8:31 PM on Ch. 22 and Ch. 9: Creator-producer Tim Doyle based this new sitcom on his own upbringing in the 1970s, with Michael Cudlitz (“The Walking Dead”) and Mary McCormack (“The West Wing”) as a couple with eight sons who largely are left to their own inventions. Events in the outside world — during one of the most pivotal decades of social change in American history — have impacts on the family, though the members of the bustling household have enough concerns already.

The Rookie, 10 PM on Ch. 22 and Ch. 9: After playing an amateur sleuth on “Castle,” Nathan Fillion gets to wear an official uniform in this new drama series as the oldest rookie in the Los Angeles Police Department. Others think he’s too old for the job, but he’s determined to prove them wrong — which he’ll likely do almost weekly. ABC must have known it would be getting back into business with Fillion, having kept him prominent as a guest star on other series (“Modern Family, ”“American Housewife”) between his own shows.
