Girl, 4, shot in car that drove to lot at McDonald’s for help

-

A 4-year-old girl is expected to recover after being shot inside a car that later drove to a McDonald’s parking lot for help, Trotwood Police Chief Erik L. Wilson said.

The girl was buckled in a car seat in the back of a car around 6:45 p.m. Wednesday that was headed south on Salem Avenue at Olive Road, Wilson said.

“An unknown vehicle pulled up next to it and opened fire, striking the vehicle multiple times, injuring the 4-year-old girl,” Wilson said.

The car with the girl inside then drove to McDonald’s on Salem Avenue to get help. According to initial reports, the girl’s mother reported her daughter had been shot. It was not clear who was driving the car that was struck.

The 4-year-old girl was taken to Dayton Children’s Hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening, Wilson said.

The shooting remains under investigation, and the chief said police are asking for the public’s help to provide any information.

“Any time you have a young child caught up in the middle of something like this it is definitely disconcerting, and we’re going to do everything we can to find out who did this and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law,” Wilson said.

An anonymous 911 caller said the mother of a 4-yearold girl who was shot in Trotwood was “hysterical” when she pulled into the McDonald’s parking lot.

“She just pulled up in the parking lot and pulled her daughter out and said she’s been shot,” the caller told a dispatcher. “... I couldn’t get much out of her other than her little girl’s been shot.”

The caller was in line at the restaurant and did not see the shooting according to the call.

“She’s awake, she’s breathing, she’s crying,” the caller said of the little girl. “The mother is trying to console her . ... Somebody else is trying to help and they said they see blood.”
