Dayton Daily News

Our commitment, in four areas important to you

- — Jim Bebbington Editor

The Dayton Daily News has been an important part of our community for 120 years. Today we’re making changes to better serve you and to ensure we’re a part of your lives for a long time to come.

You’ve told us you want a paper that investigates important local issues. You want a paper that gives you context and understanding on the most important issues in your community. You want a paper that covers both sides of political stories, without bias, and a paper you can rely on to tell you what is really going on locally.

We agree. That’s why I got into this business and why all our journalists did too. We’re redoubling our efforts beginning this week to make our paper better. Here is what you will see:

■ More local news: Our Local section has more news and information from local communities. More stories, more details and more information to help you know what’s happening and what’s coming next.

■ Investigations: Every day our reporters sift through records, get data, shoot photos and video and ask questions of politicians and stakeholders that no one else asks. Every day we’re going to highlight at least one of our Dayton Daily News Investigates articles on our front page. It is what you told us you expect of us; it is what we are going to deliver.

■ Fairness: We will cover all the news fairly and without bias. You will see our pledge to cover both sides of politically charged issues throughout the paper, and more important you will read stories that back that up.

■ Ideas and Voices: Beginning today you will see changes to our Ideas and Voices pages. We’re running two political cartoons every day for balance, and we’re changing our columnist lineup to make sure we have both sides of the political spectrum.

Every day our team works to give you context and understanding about the issues facing the Dayton region. We’ve heard how much you depend on us to do this job well.

The changes today, with more to come, will help keep you informed so we all can continue to make this a great community.
