Drug raid reunites owner with her dog

Dayton Daily News - - LOCAL & STATE -

As the result of a drug house raid, an English bulldog and its owner have been reunited.

The (New Philadelphia) Times-Reporter reports deputies from the Tuscarawas County Sheriff ’s Office Thursday raided the house on Ohio 212 NW, Beach City in Franklin Twp. A man was taken into custody, and deputies seized large amounts of suspected drugs.

“When we did the raid, the dog was in there,” said Sheriff Orvis Campbell.

Deputies didn’t want to have to shoot the agitated dog, so they got someone related to the suspect to take the dog out of the house. The relative took the bulldog home overnight.

On Friday, the owner, a woman from Massillon, contacted the sheriff ’s office. She had heard rumors that the dog, which was stolen from her in 2016, was at the house.

“She had pictures of it when it was younger, and they matched up perfectly,” Campbell said. “It was very convincing that it belonged to her.”

The relative of the suspect brought the bulldog to the sheriff ’s office in New Philadelphia, and the owner retrieved her animal. “She expressed her tremendous gratitude for her dog,” the sheriff said.

Campbell noted that the bulldog didn’t care for his deputies, but it got along fine with its owner.
