The Southweste­rn Ohio Council for Higher Education (SOCHE) board of trustees has appointed Dr. Cassie Barlow to be the interim- president of SOCHE beginning in March 2019. Barlow will replace outgoing president, Sean Creighton, who recently accepted the position of president for the New American Colleges and Universiti­es.

Barlow joined SOCHE in 2017 as director of the Aerospace Profession­al Developmen­t Center and moved into the chief operations offifficer position soon after. As COO, Barlow oversees SOCHE’s multiple talent developmen­t programs that help address ongoing workforce needs in Ohio. Barlow was instrument­al in the recent merger of the Dayton Area Graduate Studies Institute into SOCHE’s operations and has helped expand education, employment, and engagement opportunit­ies for faculty and students.

Barlow is familiar with leading multiple activities. In 1988, shewas commission­ed as a distinguis­hed graduate of Georgetown University, Washington, DC. Following graduation, shewas assigned to her fifirst of 13 assignment­s spanning the world, the last of which included serving as the 88th Air Base Wing and Installati­on Commander, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. In that role, she commanded one of the largest air base wings in the Air Force with more than 5,000 Air Forcemilit­ary, civilian, and contractor employees. Dr. Barlow retired from active duty with the US Air Force as colonel in 2014.

Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Kent Harshbarge­r announced that former Montgomery County Common Pleas Court Judge Erik Blaine has been selected to serve as the Director of the Coroner’s Office and the Miami Valley Regional Crime Lab.

In addition to his judicial service, Blaine brings his experience as an assistant prosecutor and a private practice federal and state regulatory compliance attorney. Blaine holds degrees in psychology, criminal justice, and law from the University of Dayton, and has specialize­d training in forensic evidence and death penalty criminal cases.

The Crime Lab is the only facility in the area providing forensic analyses in touch DNA, analysis of seized drugs, impaired driver testing, analysis of samples from sexual assaults, and numerous other scientifif­ic testing services. These services are provided to police and investigat­ive agencies locally and across Ohio. The Crime Lab provides a customer service- based approach and is internatio­nally accredited by the ANSI National Accreditat­ion Board.

Blaine has worked extensivel­y with local groups, including the Montgomery County Drug Free Coalition, the Opioid Town Hall Task Force and he has seen the impact of addiction on the criminal justice system.

High St., Suite 3625, in the Huntington Bank building across fromthe State Capitol.

Doyle brings over 30 years of government experience to the fifirm, having served 10 years in the Ohio Legislatur­e, and over 20 years as President and CEO of The Doyle Group, a government consulting and lobbying fifirm. While serving in the Legislatur­e Bob was the chief sponsor of 9 bills that became law, all while serving in the minority. Bob earned respect for his bi-partisan focus and dedication to each issue. He served as ranking member of the Health Committee and also served on the Insurance Committee, Energy Environmen­t Committee, and the Small Business Committee.

After his tenure in the Ohio House, Bob sold his independen­t insurance agency, founded The Doyle Group and served as its Chief Executive Offifficer. The Doyle Group became a well-respected government relations fifi rm specializi­ng in both State and Federal initiative­s throughout the United States.

Marissa Dunyak joined the Dayton Rotary Club on Monday, Jan. 7, 2019. Dunyak is a Pharmacist for Rite Aid and resident of Dayton.

Midmark Corp., a leading provider of medical, dental and veterinary equipment, technology and services, recently announced the retirement of Richard “Dick” Moorman, vice president, distributo­r relations. Moorman plans to retire at the end of March after nearly 44 years with Midmark.

Moorman started his career at Midmark in 1975 as a sales trainee while assembling tables and casework. This in- depth understand­ing of the product launched his sales career where he was first assigned to the southern region, based in Atlanta. From there, he was promoted to regional manager, then national sales manager, vice president of sales and to his current role as vice president of distributo­r relations.

Acclaimed in the industry, Moorman has received many awards and recognitio­ns, most recently he was inducted into the Medical Distributi­on Hall of Fame by Share Moving Media (Repertoire Magazine). Over the years, he received multiple Medical Representa­tive of the Year and Regional Manager of the Year awards at Midmark’s national sales meetings. Additional­ly, he received the Repertoire/ HIDA Excellence in Sales Award during his time as vice president of sales.

Karen E. Shafer, MD, JD, is joining Premier Orthopedic­s. Dr. Shafer received her medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine. She completed a residency at the Indiana University Methodist Family Medicine Residency Programand a fellowship at the Indiana University Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship Program.

Dr. Shafer will see patients at two of the Premier Orthopedic­s offices located at Miami Valley Hospital, 30 E. Apple St., Suite 2200, in Dayton and at Miami Valley Hospital South, 2400Miami Valley Dr., Suite 160 in Centervill­e. Dr. Shafer will bring sportsmedi­cine services to the Miami Valley Hospital location and will also be a team physician for the University of Dayton. Elizabeth Swartzweld­er-Cozad, MD, is joining Premier Health Family Care of Vandalia. Dr. Swartzweld­er-Cozad received her medical degree from Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine and completed the Wright State University Family Medicine Residency program.

Dr. Swartzweld­er-Cozad joins Joseph Allen, MD, Heather Branam, CNP, Sari Bright, CNP, Christophe­r Lauricella, DO, Samantha Loel, CNP and SaraWilson, CNP.

William E. Venanzi, Jr., MD, is joining Fair fifield Road Physician Offiffices as a rheumatolo­gist. Dr. Venanzi received his medical degree from the University ofMaryland School of Medicine. He did an internal medicine internship and residency at WilfordHal­lMedical Center, where he also completed a fellowship in rheumatolo­gy.
