Man gets 5-10 years for firing at police

A man accused of firing at Dayton police last March will spend between five and 10 years in prison following a plea agreement reached Friday in the case.

Tahwin Herron Jr., 20, pleaded guilty to two counts of felonious assault and two gun charges, according to court records. He had been scheduled for trial this week.

Herron was arrested following the March 19 incident in the 300 block of Bungalow Drive. During the incident Herron fired at two Dayton police detectives, investigat­ors said.

Herron will be sentenced on Jan. 30. rangers said it was too early to determine whether the abandoned truck is connected to the naked man. However, both were discovered in the same area within 10 minutes of each other.

“I need somebody here quick. He’s bleeding from the neck and he’s in the back of my truck,” a MetroParks worker told emergency dispatcher­s around 11:30 a.m.

Another caller reported the naked man running down the street near the park.”

“I just seen a man running down Helena toward Riverside, butt ... naked,” the caller said. “He’ll probably freeze to death if nothing else.”

The man was transporte­d to the Grandview Medical Center for treatment, however his condition was not immediatel­y known.

STAFF REPORT a pickup truck, according to a 911 caller.

He was taken by CareFlight to Dayton Children’s Hospital.

The sledding accident occurred around 4:45 p.m. near North County Road 25A and Snodgrass Road, according to Miami County Sheriff ’s Office dispatch.

“We had four of them in a sled and they hit the back of a pickup,” the 911 caller said. “They’re all a little banged up.”

The 12-year-old had a possible broken leg, dispatcher­s said.
