Program provides path to biotech careers
Students in the biotechnology program at Miami Valley Career Technology Center are gaining essential hands-on experiences in preparation for future careers in high-tech fields like medicine, agriculture and pharmaceutical manufacturing. In the process, they are earning college credits and a Bioscience Lab Skills certificate from Sinclair College.
This year’s seniors, including Jalynn Price from Miamisburg, are developing independent research projects using skills and knowledge learned during as juniors.
Their research topics include a behavioral study on certain nematodes, the role of vitamins in plant growth, development of biofuels for use in an radio-controlled car, understanding how food sources impact jellyfish coloring, and the study of DNA sequences.
Projects will be presented at Sinclair’s Tech Prep Showcase in the spring.
