Man killed in shootout with armed robbers

A employee of a liquor store shot one of two armed robbers in the neck before he suffered a gunshot wound to the head, Cleveland police said.

Cleveland.com reports Mohammed Shahin, 33, of Rocky River, died in the shooting, according to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner.

The 18-year-old suspected armed robber Shahin shot was arrested a few blocks away and taken to University Hospitals in serious condition.

No formal charges have been filed in the case and police said they are searching for a second armed robber who escaped without injury. Two other employees in the store at the time — ages 58 and 18— were not injured.

The shooting happened about 8:45 p.m. Tuesday at the In & Out Beverage & Deli on Lakeview Road.

Both robbers had guns. Shahin pulled out a gun exchanged gunfire with the 18-year-old. The 18-year-old suspect ran about a half mile to Kimberly Avenue, where police arrested him and took him to the hospital.

Officers found Shahin unconsciou­s behind the counter.
