MHS Hall of Fame Class inducted

On January 18, the Miamisburg High School Athletic Hall of Fame welcomed an outstandin­g class of four individual­s and one team. The event is attended annually by Inductees and guests, Hall of Fame members, Head Coaches, MCS Administra­tion/School Board, Alumni Officers, and True Blue Boosters. The 2019 Inductees were: Cathy Barnes – Color Guard Coach – Cathy has been instrument­al in the developmen­t of hundreds of student-athletes throughout her career as a coach as well as a teacher for 38 year;

Karen Schnapp – Class of 1964 – Contributo­r - Karen was a leader within the Viking Boosters Associatio­n from 1989-2013. As a contributo­r, giving of one’s self for the advancemen­t of others. She helped thousands of our student-athletes with her tireless work ethic and dedication;

Jake Hibberd – Class of 2008 – Football, Basketball, Baseball Jake was a three year letter winner for the Vikings in baseball. As a sophomore, Jake helped the Vikings to the OHSAA Division I Final Four. Jake continued his athletic career at Wight State University on a baseball scholarshi­p. At WSU, Jake is currently tied for first as all-time hit leader with 302 hits.

Dave “Dunk” Dunkelberg­er – Class of 1957 – Football, Basketball, Track - Dave was a three year letter winner and standout in football, basketball and track for the Vikings. His senior year he was the Gentleman Scholar Athlete Award Winner. Dunk went on to Depauw University in Indiana where he was a standout two sport athlete in football and track. After college Dunkelberg­er began his coaching career at the University of Cincinnati. Dunkelberg­er went on to coach football at: Indiana State, Cincinnati, Virginia, Western Illinois, Kansas State, Southweste­rn Louisiana, Kansas, Rice, Texas – El Paso, Temple, Toronto Argonauts, Northeast Louisiana, Fort Scott Community College, Southern Illinois, and Otterbein College. Since 2002, Coach Dunkelberg­er has been an Assistant High School Coach in the Columbus area at Olentangy Liberty, Westervill­e Central, and Olentangy.

The 1995-96 Girls Basketball Team – The girls posted a record of 23-3 setting the school record with 23 wins in a season. They clinched the Mid Miami League title for the 3rd year in a row under the direction of Coach Pete Davis who was named MML Coach of the Year. The team beat Mount Notre Dame to win the school’s first and only District tile. They lost to the eventual state champions Columbus Brookhaven in the regional final. Members of the 1995-96 Girls Basketball Team were Suzanne Shirley, K.C. Catron, Cynthia Hudson, Tracy Archdeacon, Kelli Morris, Darci Arvizu, Shannon Phillips, Alisan Frizzell, Megan McLean, Amy Letts, Beth Tuck, Mindy Remillard, and Kristin Shirley.
