A Cleveland man is accused of accidentally shooting and killing a husband and father of six outside New West Tech High School.

Cleveland.com reports Carlos Diaz-Reyes is charged with involuntary manslaughter in the Aug. 30 fatal shooting of Edwin Rios.

The shooting happened about 8 p.m. outside the school. Diaz-Reyes was holding a gun that went off, hitting Rios in the chest. Someone saw Rios holding his chest outside the school, put him in their car and drove Rios to the nearby Sunoco gas station, where they flagged down a Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority officer.

Rios was taken to MetroHealth, where he died. DiazReyes fled after the shooting.

Diaz-Reyes was sentenced in 2012 to three years in prison for aggravated burglary and domestic violence. He has also been convicted of carrying concealed weapons and unauthorized use of a car.

Persistence paid off for Howard Hickman, who has won $1 million from Publishers Clearing House.

On Wednesday, the Publishers Clearing House Prize Patrol knocked on the door of Hickman’s home in Pickerington holding a giant-size check bearing Hickman’s name and the jackpot prize
