The city of Trotwood is seeking to attract new development along East Main Street, building on momentum from the new Dayton Metro Library branch set to open along the road.

City council approved to hire Yard & Company, a planning consulting firm, to help with the redevelopment of East Main Street. The firm will create an outline backed with research that will show how the area could be developed, and that will be used to draw in private developers and business.

After the plan is created, city officials could offer incentives to lure businesses.

As part of the project, plan- ners want to talk to business owners who might consider moving to Trotwood. The planners will use their research to identify the strengths, weaknesses and opportunities to develop in the area.

The new Trotwood Branch of the Dayton Metro Library is set to break ground at the end of this month at the corner of East Main and Macgregor Drive, and the Montgomery County Area 1 District Court will take over the

continued from B1 current library building.

“We believe these planned redevelopment will undoubt- edly serve as catalysts for greater interests along East Main Street, and the city wants to capture the momen- tum to make plans to facilitate and leverage private investments in this corridor with the help from the consultant,” Trotwood Planning and Development Director Jung-Han Chen said.

Chen said it will take about three months to create the plan.

The cost is to hire the consulting firm is $20,000, and the expense was approved this month. The money was funded by a Montgomery County Community Development Block Grant.

The city is not looking for anything specific to put in the area, yet, but rather something where residents can come and enjoy a variety of public and private events, Chen said.
