A restaurant that specializes in noodle dishes from northern China is now open at 2801 S. Dixie Drive in Kettering.

Kung Fu Noodle is located on the north end of a building that once held the Colony Club, a former nightclub and restaurant that enjoyed its heyday in the 1960s and 1970s, bringing in big-band musical acts that drew large crowds from throughout the region.

The building later housed a succession of Mexican restaurants, but was vacant for several years before its south portion reopened last July as a Happy Asian Mart food market.

Kung Fu Noodle opened “softly” in mid-January and is still serving a “trial operation menu,” with a permanent menu in the works in the weeks ahead. The restaurant seats 22.

But even the trial menu is extensive, featuring appetizers such as roasted lamb skewer, dumplings, pot stickers and “Dandan Noodle,” consisting of thin vermicelli-style noodles with stirfried ground pork, topped with spicy garlic sauce and green onion.

Noodle-based entree dishes include Classic Lanzhou Beef Noodle Soup, with hand-stretched noodles served with thinly sliced braised beef, sliced white radish, green garlic and cilantro; Stir-Fried Noodle with pork, zucchini, onion, cabbage and tomato; and “Bite of China” Ground Pork Noodle Soup with tofu, kelp buds, dried lily, carrots, spinach, potato and ground pork.

Kung Fu Noodle is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Monday, closed on Tuesdays. For information, call (937) 938-9027.
