Co-founder of Butter Cafe found dead

The co-founder of Butter Cafe, Sarah Dudley, was found dead from a suspected overdose in an office above the restaurant Sunday morning, according to a Dayton police incident report.

Police and medics responded to the cafe on Brown Street after co-founder Amy Beaver found Dudley, 39, and her boyfriend David Duncan, 30, unresponsi­ve in the office above the cafe.

Dudley was pronounced dead at the scene and was removed by the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office. Duncan was taken to Miami Valley Hospital after medics administer­ed Narcan and was listed in serious condition.

Police located seven capsules that contained an unknown substance.

Beaver and Dudley founded the restaurant together in 2010. on Archer Drive in December. He was arrested Friday, jail records show.

The child was found safe after Hatmaker abandoned the car and stole another car on Dec. 5. The mother had called 911 from the gas station.

“Someone just stole my car with my son in it,” the boy’s mother told dispatcher­s while breaking down in tears. “I parked right outside the door. I ran in to get cigarettes, and then my car was gone.”

The vehicle and child were found in the 6800 block of Peters Road near Tipp City.

“My wife went out to start her car. There’s a car in my driveway with a baby in it, and her car is gone,” a man told 911 dispatcher­s. “And the baby’s crying”

Troy police advised that no one should leave a running car unattended nor keep your children inside the car alone.
