Request denied

-

A request to replace stained glass windows with clear glass on the front of a West Main Street church being converted into a brewery was denied unanimously Wednesday by the Troy Planning Commission.

The building is undergoing renovations to become a Moeller Brew Barn. Nick Moeller, who operates a brewery and tasting room in Maria Stein, is part owner in the project.

Keystone Real Estate Group, owner of the 214 W. Main St. building that formerly was the longtime home of the Lutheran Church, sought the change from a large stained glass window on the upper front and three smaller stained glass windows on the lower front.

The city staff said in its report recommending the board reject the request that there was slight damage to two areas of windows and noted that the windows were original to the church built in 1912. The report also outlined other stained glass window repairs done at churches and other downtown buildings in recent years.

Commission Chairman Alan Kappers encouraged Scott to continue working with the city staff to see if an alternative proposal could be proposed.
