A frantic call on Saturday night prompted dispatchers to send multiple police units to a Beavercreek church for a possible hostage situation.

Officials later deemed the situation a hoax.

The caller, who called himself Michael, told the dispatcher the Dayton Student House of Prayer address, then added “Yeah, I just [expletive] shot somebody.”

The dispatcher had attempted to get more information before he disconnected.

A second call came in from the same man. He said he was “freaking out” and started breathing heavily.

“I just shot somebody,” he told the dispatcher. “I got two hostages right now and I might take more.”

The dispatcher tried to calm the man and asked him not to hang up. The man continued to tell the dispatcher, “I’m not going to hang up. I’m just going to put the phone down and I’m going to tie them up.”

“Who’s there with you, Michael?” the dispatcher asked before the man disconnected.

Police arrived, and the church’s door was locked. They were able to contact SHOP’s director, Jack McComas, who confirmed no one was hurt or held hostage.

Beavercreek police have not confirmed if there is a person of interest in the case, but the Montgomery County Sheriff ’s Office did follow up with a Washington Twp. man after a tip they received. Police don’t have any charges and did not detain the man.
