Franklin man arrested in shooting after another, separate incident

Victim shot in the head; police learn of it two days later.

A Franklin man FRANKLIN — has been charged in connection with shooting a man in the head Monday afternoon at an apartment complex.

Franklin police arrested Jesse James, 39, on a charge of felonious assault, a second-degree felony. James is being held under a $100,000 bond at the Warren County Jail. He is scheduled for a video arraignmen­t at noon today in Franklin Municipal Court.

James is a suspect in the shooting of Timothy Lazier, 40, of Franklin. Lazier was shot once in the head with a .22-caliber handgun in the 900 block of Franklin Commons Court. He was transporte­d to Atrium Medical Center and later to Miami Valley Hospital. The hospital confirmed he was admitted but could not release any other informatio­n.

Police said no one at the scene was cooperativ­e, but James was identified as the suspect.

Police were called to 613 Spring Ave. about 9 p.m. Wednesday on a report of an assault allegedly involving James. Several Warren County law enforcemen­t agencies were called to set up a perimeter as part of a search for James, who was eventually arrested.

James has a lengthy record in Franklin Municipal Court dating to 1997. While many of the 28 contacts were for traffic infraction­s, James has been charged with failure to pay taxes, domestic violence, assault and aggravated menacing. He also had five cases in Middletown Municipal Court from 2001 to 2011 that included disorderly conduct, petty theft and intoxicati­on.
