Council OKs soccer stadium boundaries

Constructi­on on the FC Cincinnati stadium can proceed now that City Council cast its decisive vote Thursday on the year-long debate over putting a 25,000-seat Major League Soccer venue in the city’s west end.

The Council’s 7-0 vote approved the boundaries of the stadium campus and removed the last barrier for constructi­on, although final design details must still be approved by the city planning commission, according to WCPO.com.

The zoning vote and movement on two other West End issues came just in time to allow FC Cincinnati to meet its constructi­on schedule for a planned opening in March 2021.

The Cincinnati Ballet announced also it and the soccer club had made peace in their dispute over parking and other issues.

Justin Shupp, 31, of West Virginia was driving a 2018 Freightlin­er and was cited for failure to keep an assured clear distance.

The accident occurred at 2:32 p.m. at Ellett Road and U.S. Route 62 in Knox Township.

Shupp struck a 2018 Ford Focus driven by Teresa Felgar, 54, of Beloit. Both Shupp and Felgar were headed eastbound on U.S. Route 62. That caused Felgar to go left of center and strike a westbound 2012 Ford Focus driven by Chantae McLivain, 29, of Sebring. McLiavain’s vehicle went off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree.

Smith Township Police Chief Paul Ceresna said the accident was on the Columbiana County side of U.S. Route 62.
