Parent seminar
A free information seminar for parents of teenage children who have developmental disabilities will be held on March 27, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The seminar is titled, “School to Adult Life Transition,” (or SALT), and the topic is “Understanding the Fundamentals of Guardianship and the Alternatives.” The presenter will be Laura Drake, Attorney at Law, and she will discuss what families should know regarding legal information involving people with disabilities.
The seminar will address; ■ Developing a better understanding of the laws and new standards
■ The rights of people with disabilities
■ Limited Guardianship, Power of Attorney, Supported Decision Making, and how the process works
Family members of people with disabilities, agency personnel and educators are welcome to attend and participate. Parents are encourage to bring their children ages 14 and older to participate in a Student/Young Adult session while parents attend the presentation. In the Student/ Young Adult session, students will explore safety and things they need to know to stay safe.
The SALT seminar will be held at the Warren County Board of Developmental Disabilities’ Warren C. Young Center, 801 Drake Road.
