A death investigation has been initiated for remains found Friday afternoon in Glen Helen Nature Preserve, Greene County Sheriff’s Capt. Sean Magoteaux said.

People hunting for mushrooms found the remains, which appear to have been in the wooded area for some time, he said.

“The body was in very bad shape,” the captain said, noting an autopsy will have to determine whether the remains are that of a male or female.

An autopsy was scheduled to be performed Saturday at the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office. The Greene County Coroner’s Office is handling the case.

Officials said Monday that the remains still have not been identified and no additional information was available.

The discovery off the 3400 block of Grinnell Road was reported about 3:30 p.m. Friday. The location is across from Camp Greene at Glen Helen Nature Preserve.

Leonid Clark, 26, reportedly missing since January, was last seen in Yellow Springs on or about Jan. 13, Yellow Springs police said in February.

Buckeye Search & Rescue dogs were used in February in a search of “the area of Glen Helen Nature Preserve as this is a place Mr. Clark was known to frequent,” according to a statement issued by the department.

Clark was classified as a missing person Feb. 6 when he failed to make a court appearance in Missouri.

“It’s too early to determine anything,” Capt. Magoteaux said. “It’s just a death investigation at this point.”
