New hotel considered for Oregon District

Weyland Ventures could open fifth hotel in downtown Dayton.

A new hotel may be on the horizon for the Oregon District.

Weyland Ventures real estate developmen­t firm confirmed it is considerin­g adding a hotel to a parking lot it owns on Wayne Avenue near Troll Pub at the Wheelhouse.

“We are still in the initial concept stage, but it is something we are definitely exploring,” Mariah Gratz, the CEO of Weyland Ventures, said. “We think there are a lot of exciting things going on in the Oregon District.”

Business developmen­t in downtown Dayton has been the biggest driver of hotel growth, said Terry Baltes, hotel broker and owner of Baltes Commercial Realty, especially amid a healthy economy with low unemployme­nt and more job competitio­n.

Weyland, a Kentucky-based firm, rehabbed the historic Weustoff and Getz building at 210 Wayne Ave., transformi­ng it into the 40-unit Wheelhouse Lofts and
