1 dead as car crashes into home
A man in his mid-20s has died after his vehicle crashed into a Springfield home.
A Nissan Altima left the roadway, struck a brick barrier around a pole, and crashed into a garage in the rear of a home in the 2500 block of Sunset Avenue, according to Sgt. Michael Curtis of the Springfield Police Division.
The accident was first reported at 12:39 a.m. Sunday, said Sgt. James Hall of the Springfield Police Division.
The cause of death of the driver is undetermined, police said. It is unclear whether speed or alcohol were involved. The airbags did not deploy in the crash.
One passenger, a woman in her mid-20s, was in the vehicle at the time of the accident. She was taken by CareFlight to the Miami Valley Hospital as a precau- tionary measure. She did not appear to have serious injuries, Curtis said.
Police are not releasing identification of the driver or passenger until the fam- ily has been notified.
There have been several incidents of vehicles crashing into homes in the past year. Last August, two women were injured when a car crashed into a home near the intersection of Balsam Drive and Cook- ston Drive.
In January, a minivan crashed into a home in Miamisburg and in April a truck drove into a home in the 500 block of Hill- crest Avenue.
