The city has partnered FAIRBORN — with the National Fitness Campaign (NFC) to install and activate a state-of-the-art outdoor gym facility for all ages at Central Park.

The NFC, founded in 1979, partners with local communities and nationwide sponsors to promote healthy infrastructure.

Fairborn is one of the first cities in Ohio to receive a grant from the San Francisco-based company to install the outdoor fitness system in one of its local parks. Fairborn received $30,000 from the National Fitness Campaign, according to a press release from the city.

The new Fitness Court is an outdoor bodyweight circuit-training facility designed to transform public spaces into community fitness hubs.

“The equipment at the fitness court will give individuals the ability to do core work, squats, push and pull exercises, lunges, agility exercises, flexion and extension exercises,” said Fairborn spokeswoman Meghan Howard.

The new system also includes a free Fitness Court App that residents can use to track their workout progress, learn new routines or compete in fitness challenges.

Each Fitness Court has shock-resistant sports flooring and is comprised of exercise stations that allow for up to 28 individuals to use the court at the same time, according to the National Fitness Campaign website.

The outdoor bodyweight circuit-training system features a series of full-body exercises that can be completed in seven minutes. “7 Movements in 7 Minutes” is a simple yet powerful workout created for a range of athletic abilities, and is optimally performed on the Fitness Court, according to the NFC.

Fairborn residents are invited to attend a launch party Saturday at 10 a.m. in Central Park,

located at 222 S. Central Ave. in Fairborn.

The event will include a fun fitness challenge, prizes and giveaways. The Greene County Public Health District will also be taking part while doing its annual Family Health and Fitness Day.

The Fitness Court grand opening will showcase demonstrations of the court, a challenge between Fairborn police and fire departments, as well as anyone else who wants to join the challenge.
