Widening work to help flow of traffic near Wright-Patt
Project adding double turn lane, sidewalk to busy Beavercreek road.
Traffic on a well-traveled Beavercreek road that runs between Kauffman Road and Colonel Glenn Highway will be impacted through the summer as widening work begins.
Vandalia-based RB Jergens was awarded the $1.5 million project to widen the 1.5-mile stretch known as National Road, which borders Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Area B.
Sixty-percent of the costs is being paid for through a grant from the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission, according to Jeff MoormanBeavercreek city engineer. Moorman said the work is needed to alleviate congestion at Colonel Glenn and Grange Hall Road.
“A northbound double-left turn lane will be installed at the intersection to better accommodate this high demand turning movement,” Moorman said. “This new double-left turn lane will get vehicles through the intersection more efficiently which will allow for more green signal time to be given to southbound traffic to help with backups in that direction.”
A new northbound through lane will be built to get traffic through the intersection more efficiently.
A sidewalk will be installed on the east side of National, which features a mix of businesses, residences and churches.
The work is scheduled to be finished by September.
No other major road projects are expected to start this year in the city of Beavercreek, but officials said there are large roadway improvements planned for next year.
Those projects include upgrading traffic signals and reconstructing a portion of Kemp Road; reconstructing a portion of Dayton-Xenia Road; and adding lighting, traffic signal reconstruction, and enhancements to a portion of Colonel Glenn Hwy.
