Dayton strong.

It’s a phrase that has been plastered on social media, on signs, on shirts and on hearts all over our city.

When multiple tornadoes touched down on Memorial Day evening, leaving a path of devastation through communities around our city, people all over our community stepped up.

Individuals, communities, organizations and businesses across the region stepped up and continued to step up in a big way to start helping residents impacted by the storms.

A small selection of those businesses that stepped up were local restaurants.

By no means have I heard about every restaurant that helped make sure communities were fed, but I have learned of some of them, and I am keeping a running list.

These are establishments that decided to do what they do best to help the effort: feed people.

They did it not to get recognition, but, because like every volunteer who has stepped up to help, they knew it was the right thing to do.

I am a firm believer that I should try to direct the funds that I do have towards the things that I believe in.

Seeing the way that Dayton has stepped up in a crisis, I have directed my donations to The Foodbank and tornado relief. With the money I am spending to feed myself, here are the local restaurants I have heard that have stepped up in a big way that I have either made sure or will make sure to visit.

If you know of others deserving of recognition, please reach out and let me know by sending me an email at alexis.e.larsen@hotmail.com.

There are so many unsung heroes in this ongoing story of disaster, community, kindness and service to others. Here are just a few in a sea of thousands that have stepped up to help make a difference.
