Stillwater Cleanup

The 2019 Stillwater Cleanup will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday. Joining the cleanup is free, but preregistr­ation is required. This canoe-based cleanup of the Stillwater State Scenic River, hosted and organized by the Montgomery Soil & Water Conservati­on District, has resulted in tons (literally) of trash being pulled from the stream and its banks over the years.

Come prepared by dressing properly for the weather and wearing closetoed, thick soled shoes. Canoes and a celebrator­y pizza lunch are provided. In the case of inclement weather or water levels, the event will be cancelled.

Pelican Technologi­es, Inc. created the Sparrow program, which utilizes QR codes to add an interactiv­e component to the Walk of Fame. Scan the code with your phone and learn more informatio­n about the inductees. There will be a contest for those who want to experience and interact with the new program, great prizes for all who participat­e. Top prizes include a private ride for two people in a biplane at the WACO Air Museum in Troy, VIP Suite Box Tickets to see Herbie Hancock or Air Supply at The Rose Music Center in Huber Heights.

Take advantage of the opportunit­y to honor your favorite Walk of Fame member during the June 21 event. For just $150 you can recognize an enshrined Walk of Fame member with a QR Code sponsorshi­p for the evening.

Wright Dunbar, Inc. sponsors the Dayton Region’s Walk of Fame, and the memorial stones are on West Third Street in the Wright Dunbar Historic Business District between Broadway and Shannon and along Williams Street. Over 170 outstandin­g individual­s and groups have been memorializ­ed for their significan­t contributi­ons to the Miami Valley, the country and the world.

The 2019 honorees are: Jessie Gooding, John Gower, Betsy and Lee Whitney and Dayton Contempora­ry Dance Company.

The honorees will be celebrated at a luncheon on Thursday, Sept. 26, at the Sinclair College Conference Center. Tickets for the luncheon are available on the Dayton
