Marion’s sells more than 65K pizzas in one week

- By Amelia Robinson Staff Writer

Employees at a classic Dayton restaurant chain are recovering from a week literally spent rolling out the dough.

Marion’s Piazza President and CEO Roger Glass said a record 65,735 pizzas were sold during the business’ nine locations during its annual, five-day pizza sale. The previous record set in 2015 was 65,230.

“We are just thankful that we have great customers and they support us, and we try to support them,” Glass said.

In celebration of its 54th anniversary, the company offered

pizza 50% off with a coupon found in the Dayton Daily News or Reach magazine.

The company suspended the coupon requirement on Monday, July 8, in support of customers impacted by the Memorial Day tornadoes that destroyed thousands of homes in the Miami Valley.

“We had so many stories with people (customers) that were affected by the tornadoes: Englewood, North Dixie, Beavercreek and even Troy,” he said. “(Some of ) those people are just displaced. They are not receiving mail or newspapers.”

It was the 11th year for the Marion’s annual sale. Approximately 60,000 piz- zas are sold each year. Some years, the restaurant chain has offered throwback prices.

The longest wait for pizza this year was about an hour, Glass said, noting that the stores brought in additional staffing.

“Our customers are so wonderful,” Glass said. “It is just a thank you to our customers.”

Glass said the restaurant will have a special sale in 2020 for Marion’s 55th anniversary. Details of that sale have not yet been determined.
