More than 45 restaurants offering a week’s worth of deals

- Alexis Larsen Dayton Eats

This week, diners will see specialty three-course dinners pop up on menus at independent restaurants across the Miami Valley.

“When we first started, we began with just 15 to 20 restaurants, and we have since doubled the amount of restaurants with a price point for everyone,” said Amy Zahora, executive director of the Miami Valley Restaurant Association (MVRA). “Consumers love to dine out and try new restaurants, and this gives them the perfect opportunity to try something new at a great value.”

The seasonal promotion presents an opportunity to sample the best that local restaurants have to offer in the form of three-course meals priced at $20.19, $25.19, or $30.19 at a variety of restaurants all over town. This year, more than 45 restaurants are signed up to participate.

New to the event this year is Sushi Hana in Centerville. The restaurant, under new ownership, serves specialty sushi, Korean, Japanese, Asian and Chinese dishes.

Many menu options include dishes with summer flavor and flair:

■ Tamarind glazed pork belly and smoked corn tomato salad from Calypso Grill

■ Peppered steak lettuce wraps with fresh green been kraut from Dewberry 1850

■ Esquites and Mexican street corn off the cob from elé Cake Co and Wine Bistro

■ Shoyu and cilantro marinated grilled chicken skewers, green onion, and aji amarillo salsa, corn and Jasmine rice and authentic Korean cuisine from Sushi Hana.

The Summer Restaurant Week promotion runs July 21-28. Before you head out, Zahora recommends making reservations in advance and to double-check the dates and the restaurants are participating — not all restaurants are open seven days a week and some of the participants can change up to the last minute.

Pro tip: Earlier dining times and off-peak days like Sunday through Wednesday are likely to have more availability.

The Restaurant Week promotion was established more than a decade ago as a way to generate interest and traffic to local restaurants and help give diners a chance to explore the menu at a more affordable price point. Zahora says donations will be made to benefit tornado victims from meals sold.
