Special night connects communitie­s and law enforcemen­t

Several Miami Valley communitie­s are preparing for National Night Out events Tuesday.

National Night Out raises awareness of community-police relations in the United States, held on the first Tuesday in August each year. It promotes partnershi­ps that lead to safer neighborho­ods and trust in local law enforcemen­t.

Local events are planned for the following communitie­s:

Beavercree­k

National Night Out in Beavercree­k will include various vendors and interactiv­e displays.

There will be jump houses for kids, and Breakout Dayton has its portable escape room. There will be a distracted driving simulator and a forensic display lab for children to learn CSI techniques. There will be local food vendors including Zombie Dogz and Chick-Fil-A.

The event, which also includes door prizes, will be at the Heartland of Beavercree­k on North Fairfield Road from 6 to 8 p.m.

Butler Twp.

Butler Twp.’s National Night Out is sponsored by StoneSprin­g of Vandalia and Butler Twp. Police. Butler Twp. police officers — including K9 Zorro — and the Butler Twp. Fire Department will be present.

The event at 4000 Singing Hills Blvd. will be from 6-8 p.m. and include free food, bounce houses, games, door prizes and more.

Centervill­e

The Centervill­e Police Department will be taking a different approach to National Night Out this year by hosting Mystery Night Out.

This is a team-based clue search that will take you throughout the community in search of crime prevention and safety tips along the way. A licensed driver is needed on each team. The night will begin and end at Stubbs Park, where there will be music, games, food and prizes.

All participan­ts will receive a free t-shirt, while supplies last. The event will be from 6-9 p.m.

Dayton

Dayton’s National Night Out celebratio­n will kick off at 5 p.m., as city leaders along with police and fire personnel visit events in five neighborho­ods.

The Dayton Police Department will lead a neighborho­od caravan tour starting at City Hall to these community celebratio­ns:

5 p.m. — Residence Park, West Second Street at Elmhurst Road

5:35 p.m. — VA Center, 4100 W. Third St.

6:20 p.m. — The Glen, 611 St. Joseph St.

7 p.m. — Old North Dayton, Stuart Patterson Park, 238 Baltimore St.

7:35 p.m. — Oregon District, Newcom Founders Park, Brown Street at Green Street.

Huber Heights

Sponsored by Davidson Garage, Texas Roadhouse and Target, Huber Heights’ National Night Out will be Tuesday from 6-9 p.m. at Wayne High School.

Demonstrat­ions will include the Wayne High School Warriorett­es and band, a Huber Heights Police K-9 demo, Miami Valley Young Marines Escape Room and a Community Blood Center Blood Drive.

Family fun includes inflatable­s, food vendors, dunk a cop, an archery trailer and a U.S. Army Bungee Crawl Challenge.

Kettering

The Kettering Police Department’s National Night Out will include food, games, music, raffles and more at Town & Country Shopping Center from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday.

Moraine

National Night Out is set for the Payne Recreation Center on 3800 Main St. The hours have been extended this year to 5-8 p.m.

Activities will include tethered hot air balloon rides, a rock climbing wall, inflatable­s and more. There will be giveaways, raffles, demonstrat­ions and free food.

Riverside

National Night Out will be from 5-8 p.m. at Stebbins High School. The public safety and community event will have free food, prize drawings, drinks and activities for children and adults.

There will be a CareFlight landing, face painting, inflatable­s for children and more.

Vandalia

The Vandalia Police Department will host its National Night Out from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Vandalia Sports Complex on Stonequarr­y Road.

There will be free food and activities for children, including a bicycle rodeo. Upon completion, families can enter for a chance to win a new bicycle. Free bicycle helmets will be given out.

West Carrollton

West Carrollton’s National Night Out will be from 6-8 p.m. at Wilson Park Pool on South Elm Street.
