Shawn Thomas

-

Brookville Local Schools welcomed Shawn Thomas this past year to serve as elementary principal. Although new to Brookville, Mrs. Thomas has 26 years in education and has been a wonderful addition to the district.

Family: My family consists of my husband Tony Thomas, and our children Seth Thomas, Shaye Garno (married to Grady Garno) and Justus Thomas. Seth and Shaye are 24 and are twins. Justus is 17 and is a student at Northmont. Tony and I became grandparents in March.

What’s your favorite part of being a principal in Brookville? My favorite part about being a principal at Brookville Elementary is getting to work with the students, school employees, administration and the parents. It has been nothing but a positive move for me. Being a principal is so rewarding in many ways. I get to be there for our students when they are learning new concepts or making connections that they have never experienced before. I also went into this profession to help our teachers feel supported and give them the resources they need to help our students succeed. The community and school have been nothing but inviting and have welcomed me to Brookville with open arms.

What’s your favorite elementary activity? So far, my favorite elementary activity is watching the kids interact at school with each other and their teachers. I love seeing their eyes light up when they are learning a new concept and finally they have an ah-ha moment. The students are amazing and hard workers. They are eager to learn, and I attribute that to having great parents who are very supportive and want what is best for their child.

What’s one of your defining characteristics? One of my defining characteristics is that

I am very determined and am a hard worker that wants to do what is best for all involved. I try to be the light in this dark world, making Brookville a place where students and staff want to come to learn. Any final thoughts? I would just like to add that I feel so blessed and honored to be the Brookville Elementary principal. It is a school with high standards, wonderful staff, great students and a tight-knit community. It is every principal’s dream to work in a school district such as Brookville. I promise as the Brookville Elementary principal I will give my all to continue with this wonderful community’s traditions of having a great school district that has had such academic success. The quote I want to leave with is,“Success is happiness in your heart because you made the effort 100 percent, to do your best!”
