Not too late to snag a GE job
GE Aviation held a job fair Saturday to hire for 70 open area positions with the worldwide manufacturer of jet engines and parts.
If you missed it, it’s not too late. Apply at jobs.gecareers. com/global/en/ge-aviation.
The company is making a big push for workers at Dayton-area locations at GE Dayton-Elan Unison in Beavercreek, GE Episcenter in Dayton, GE Tech Development in Butler Twp., and GE-Vandalia.
Thomas Gnau reported last week the hiring is fueled in part by the success of the GE Aviation LEAP jet engine built in Southwest Ohio. According to the company, every two seconds, a plane with GE Aviation technology takes off somewhere around the world.
We like our SUVs
Sport utility vehicles top the list of the most-driven vehicles in the Dayton area, racking up mileage at rates up to 27% higher than average, according to a iSeeCars.com study.
U.S. drivers put nearly 12,000 miles per year on their vehicles on average, but SUVs appear to be going much farther. The Chevrolet Suburban topped a list of the most-driven vehicles in Dayton, logging 15,324 miles per year on average.
The Toyota Sequoia, the car most likely to reach 200,000 miles both nationally and in Dayton, was among the top-driven cars locally, according to iSeeCars.com, a company that aggregates listings of used cars for sale online.
The study examined more than 2.3 million sales of 10-year-old cars to identify the top vehicles with the highest annual mileage. The average for all cars is 11,987 miles.
The top 5 vehicles and miles-per-year were:
Chevrolet Suburban 15,324 2
Toyota Sequoia 15,079
GMC Yukon XL 15,068
Honda Pilot 14,513
Toyota Prius 14,468
The Chevrolet Corvette Convertible is the least-driven car, with its owners driving it 64% less than the average vehicle.
Send me a note: How many miles do you put on your vehicle?
Rue Dumaine no longer
The remnants of the nationally-recognized Rue Dumaine restaurant have disappeared.
Mark Fisher reported last week that Tokyo Grill Sushi & Hibachi Buffet has replaced Rue Dumaine at 1061 Miamisburg-Centerville Road location in Washington Twp.
The former Rue Dumaine, which was recognized nationally for its chef and co-owner Anne Kearney, closed in July 2017 after a decade-long run.
I miss Rue Dumaine, but I also like to try new things.
Last day for no tax
Today’s the last day to pay
no taxes on your back-toschool supply purchases. Ohio’s sales tax holiday ends at midnight tonight.
Our inboxes were packed with e-mails last week from retailers offering special discounts during the three-day “holiday.” Everyone from Kroger to Office Depot and Walmart are offering deals on supplies.
Certain items are exempt from sales tax, including clothing priced less than $75, school supplies and instruction material priced under $20. Ohio’s initial sales tax holiday boosted sales tax revenues by $4.7 million and saved shoppers $3.3 million on sales tax, according to a study from the University of Cincinnati.
A state bill introduced by a local legislator aims at increasing the clothing price to $100 and making more expensive items like laptops tax free.
