Recently WEST CARROLLTON — released survey results show West Carrollton residents give their city high marks in safety services, trash collection and parks and recreation.

Significantly fewer residents, meanwhile, responded that the city’s appearance and its ability to attract jobs were favorable attributes.

The survey completed this spring by Wright State University shows 80% of respondents rated the quality of West Carrollton city services as “excellent” or “good” while 68% rated the city as an “excellent” or “good” place to live.

Results in specific areas indicate the city is “doing a very good job in the safety service area,” said Mike Wiehe, director of WSU’s

Applied Policy Research Institute.

Among the findings: ■ 98% were “very satisfied” or “satisfied” with both fire services and paramedic services.

■ 92% were “very satisfied” or “satisfied” with police services.

■ 96% were “very satisfied” or “satisfied” with waste collection services; 89 percent were “very satisfied” or “satisfied” with snow removal efforts; and 88% indicated they recycle in the home.

■ 94% were “very satisfied” or “satisfied” with parks and recreation.

The 72-question survey, which was last performed in 2015, was completed by 343 residents, more than 85% of whom are homeowners, records show.

Most of the respondents took the survey online. One third of those surveyed were in the 18-34 years of age range and another third made up the 35-54 years of age range.

“I think it’s interest that the majority of our responses this time around were in the 18-34 range, which is a little younger demographic,” West Carrollton City Manager Brad Townsend said.

The city’s appearance and its ability to attract jobs, meanwhile, are areas where residents said they would like to see improvement. Among the results: ■ 63% said they were “very satisfied” or “satisfied” with efforts to bring new jobs and businesses to the city.

■ About 50% said they like the city’s overall appearance.

■ About 37% said they were “very satisfied” or “satisfied” with employment opportunities in city.

Other areas of concern included:

■ Addressing run down houses and buildings.

■ Being more aggressive weed control enforcement.

■ Increasing police presence.
