THESE 6 DAYTON OFFICERS ENDED SHOOTING RAMPAGE IN 30 SECONDS

Six Dayton police officers on patrol in the Oregon District early Sunday morning ran toward gunfire, shooting and killing Connor Betts in less than a minute after Betts opened fire on people enjoying a weekend out. Dayton police say the following officers discharged their weapon during the shooting:

■ Sgt. Chad Knight, 22 years

■ Officer Brian Rolfes, 3 years

■ Officer Jeremy Campbell, 3 years

■ Officer Vincent Carter, 3 years

■ Officer Ryan Nabel,

3 years

■ Officer David Denlinger, 3 years

Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley said: “Time and again, I as mayor have been amazed at Dayton first responders.”

DAYTON — Emergency dispatch traffic from officers the moments gunfire erupted in the Oregon District on Sunday morning captured the quick action of Dayton police.

“Active shooter downtown,” one officer shouted as gunfire can be heard in the background. “Multiple shots fired. Multiple shots fired.”

The Montgomery County Regional Dispatch Center issued a county-wide call for extra officers to respond to the Oregon District.

In less than two minutes of radio traffic, police reported the suspected shooter as being down.

“We’ve got shots fired. We’ve got multiple people down. We’re going to need multiple medics,” an officer said over police radio. “We think there’s one shooter. He is down.”
