Tornado-damaged Aldi reopening next week
The Beavercreek Aldi store that has been closed since tornadoes destroyed the location in late May will reopen next week.
The store at 2451 Lakeview Drive will reopen at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 15, “a celebration of community perseverance,” according to a statement from Aldi.
Beavercreek Aldi employees began lending a hand to cleanup the morning after the tornadoes, according to the statement. Aldi also sent 700 disaster relief food boxes to the Dayton Foodbank and donated $10,000 to the American Red Cross for tornado relief.
“We’re pleased to reopen our Beavercreek store after experiencing such a devastating event, and we’re thankful for our employees and trusted business partners who were on site the next day to start the cleanup process,” said Sarah Brown, ALDI Springfield division
vice president. “The entire community was affected in one way or another, and it’s encouraging to see how quickly we’ve come together to rebuild.”
At the reopening, the first 100 customers will receive a gift card and there will be a sweepstakes for a chance to win a year’s supply of Aldi produce.
Other stores and restaurants in the area were also heavily damaged, some of which are still closed. Winds reached 140 mph through Beavercreek, ripping off roofs and blowing out windows at area businesses.
Hobby Lobby on N. Farifield Road is still closed, along with Primanti Bros. A former Abuelo’s restaurant in the process of being renovated for a new El Toro location was also heavily damaged.
Chick-fil-A opened about 10 days after the tornadoes and several other businesses reopened in the weeks following the mass destruction of 15 tornadoes on Memorial Day.
“I know the last few months have been trying times in Dayton, so please know the community is in my thoughts,” said Brett Cozzi, Aldi spokesman.
